Dictate hotkey (Ctrl+D)
The global Ctrl+D hotkey — hold to record your voice from anywhere, release to paste the transcription into the focused text field.
Vavus Keyboard installs one system-wide dictate shortcut. Press Ctrl+D (or whatever you've rebound it to) while your cursor is in any text field — browser, email, Slack, Word, Notes, a code editor — and Vavus listens. Release the hotkey (or press it again, depending on your platform) and the transcription is pasted into the focused field.
- 1Press Ctrl+D — start listening
The tray icon turns red and the status pill in the main window switches to "Listening". Speak in the source language you picked on the Dictation page.
- 2Release or press again — stop
Vavus stops the microphone, runs the audio through your chosen tier (Standard, Pro, Medical, or fully Offline), and pastes the text into whatever field your cursor is in.
- 3System notification confirms result
When the paste completes you get a brief OS-level notification. If something fails — no microphone, missing permission, no internet on a cloud tier — the notification tells you why.
- 4Entry appears in History
Every dictation is added to your local History (encrypted at rest). Open the History tab to search past entries or copy them again.
