Forgot / reset password

Request a password reset link by email, then set a new password — including the 12-word recovery phrase step if your account is in zero-knowledge mode.

If you can't sign in, the Forgot Password page sends a reset link to your email. Clicking the link (or pasting the token into the Reset Password page) lets you choose a new password. Accounts in zero-knowledge mode need their 12-word recovery phrase as well.

  1. 1
    Back to login

Returns to the Sign-in page without sending a reset email.

  2. 2
    Email

The email of the account you've lost access to.

  3. 3
    Send reset link

Vavus emails a reset link to that address. To prevent guessing which emails are registered, the confirmation screen says "If an account exists, we sent a link" regardless.

  4. 4
    Enter reset link

On the confirmation screen — jumps to the Reset Password page where you can paste the reset token from the email if you'd rather not click the link.

  5. 5
    Reset link or token

On the Reset Password page — paste the full reset URL or just the token from your email.

  6. 6
    New password / Confirm password

Type the password you want and confirm it.

  7. 7
    Recovery phrase (zero-knowledge accounts only)

Appears only if your account is in zero-knowledge mode. Paste the 12 words separated by spaces — they unlock your encrypted data so Vavus can re-wrap it with your new password.

  8. 8
I have lost my recovery phrase — wipe encrypted data

Destructive escape hatch for zero-knowledge accounts. Resets your password but discards the encrypted history we can no longer decrypt. Only check this if the recovery phrase is gone forever.

  9. 9
    Reset password

Submits the new password. On success you're redirected to Sign-in.
