Security
Manage account security — recovery mode and the 12-word recovery phrase for zero-knowledge encryption.
Security gives you control over how your encrypted keyboard history can be recovered if you forget your password. Two modes exist — Standard Recovery (the default) and Zero-Knowledge Mode.
Account Security — Recovery Mode
- 1Recovery mode (info card)
Explains the current mode. In Standard Recovery, Vavus holds an unreadable wrap of your encryption key so we can re-encrypt it with a new password during a reset — we never read it. In Zero-Knowledge Mode, only your 12-word recovery phrase and password can unlock your data; we genuinely cannot help if both are lost.
Recovery Phrase
- 2Confirm password
Your current Vavus account password. Required to enable Zero-Knowledge Mode — proves it's really you making this irreversible change.
- 3Generate recovery phrase (Standard mode → Zero-Knowledge)
Generates a brand-new 12-word recovery phrase and displays it once. Write it down on paper and keep it safe — this is the only way back into your encrypted data if you ever forget your password.
- 4Recovery phrase display (12 words in a grid)
The 12 words. They're shown only here, only this once. Vavus never stores them — if you lose them, even Vavus cannot recover your encrypted data.
- 5Copy recovery phrase
Copies the 12 words to your clipboard so you can paste them into a password manager. Clear your clipboard afterwards.
- 6I have written down my recovery phrase in a safe place
Confirms you've saved the phrase. Required before Zero-Knowledge Mode actually activates.
- 7Use standard recovery (Zero-Knowledge mode → Standard)
Switches you back to Standard Recovery. This lets Vavus restore encrypted data during a password reset again — useful if your recovery phrase is lost and you accept the implied trade-off in privacy.
